Ted was the complete all-rounder – a left-hand batsman, right-arm leg-spin bowler, excellent field and astute captain. In seven seasons he was captain in the club’s first three premierships, often producing his best in the finals. When he retired after the 1966-67 grand final, he held the club record of 1821 runs (average 30.86).

After a five-year absence, he returned to play second grade and won the association batting, showing he was still a force.

Ted’s first grade career included premierships with Numbaa, Pyree, Bomaderry and Nowra. Nine centuries have been counted in more than 7000 runs. His most productive season was 1946-47 in A reserve when he totalled 768 with Numbaa-Pyree.

Ted's first century of 126 not out came during a partnership of 324 with Harry McGuire against Nowra in the January, and he hit two more hundreds before the season had ended.

Aged 33 he headed for Sydney to play with Bankstown-Canterbury, and for two seasons performed creditably at the top of the order, mainly in third grade.

A representative player for many years, Ted’s pinnacle was to be chosen for NSW Combined Country which played Metropolitan on the Sydney Cricket Ground in November 1948. In the second innings of that game he made 28 in a fifth wicket partnership of 84 with Jim De Courcy who was destined to represent Australia. Twice more he would appear in these matches, as an umpire.
