Round One of the Women's T20 competition and Round Two of the SDCA competitions saw Ex servos field a total of 8 sides on the weekend. A huge thankyou goes out to all members of the committee, coaches and captains for making this happen. On Wednesday 23 October 2024, our Blaster program commences for newest cricketers.
Juniors Stage 1 - A day full of excitement for our Stage 1 team (pictured top right), with seven players participating in their first game of organised cricket. It was a tough ask against a much older and more experienced Bomaderry side. Our boys bowled first and put in a huge effort, with Jash Talatiya and Angad Rana each taking two wickets. With the bat, Ben Newing and Jash Talatiya each scored 6.
Stage 2 - Our Stage 2 team also took on Bomaderry and featured six players moving up from our Stage 1 team last year. Batting first, we posted 6-59 from 27 overs, led by Bayin Wills (25) and Archie Richards (15*). Bomaderry chased down our total despite a great team effort which saw Bella Cooper, Jessie Moss, Virat Rana and Archie Richards each taking a wicket.
Stage 3 - Our eldest senior team faced an uphill struggle playing short against a strong Berry-Shoalhaven Heads team. The opposition totalled 5-215 from 27 overs with Chris Mathew (2-47) leading the bowling attack. In reply, we were bowled out for 118, highlighted by Dan Richards' new highest score of 46 not out. With a few players returning in the coming weeks, our Stage 3 team will look to impose themselves on this five-team competition.
Seniors
Womens - On Friday our women took on Kiama at Albion Park (pictured bottom left) in a game that was cut short due to rain. In the 11 overs bowled, we showed that we will be a force in this competition, with Allira Smith (3-8) and Meisha Vallentine (1-11) leading the bowling attack as Kiama fell to 4-62.
First Grade - Firsts (pictured top middle) notched up their first win of the season, in a nailbiter against Shellharbour at HDO. Following a delayed start due to rain, we were sent in and set a total of 151 thanks to club debutant Roop Sharma (51) and Matthew Spinks (31). With little more than three overs to spare, we bowled Shellharbour out for 142 with key bowling performances from Roop Sharma (3-15), Anthea Godwin (2-5) and Bradd Cuddy (2-28).
In what is believed to be a first ever in the Shoalhaven, the win featured husband and wife playing together in First Grade - well done to Anthea and James Godwin.
Second Grade - Travelling down to Batemans Bay with only nine players, our seconds (pictured top left), came away with a convincing win. Winning the toss and bowling first, skipper Gary Fuss (3-20) led the attack, supported by Shane Halliday (3-43) and Jake Lewis (2-33) as Batemans Bay posted 157. In reply, we chased down the runs with 9 overs to spare and 3 wickets down. Shane Halliday (39) and Ex Servos debutant Andre Dekker (27) set a fantastic platform for Kuldeep Singh Rana (38*) and Lukas Janes (26*) to finish the chase (pictured bottom right).
Third Grade - Our thirds took on North Nowra Cambewarra at South Nowra Oval, falling just short in the chase. Bowling first, Don Tharaka, Myles Condon and club debutant Adrian Hornsby each took two wickets as Norths set a total of 189. In reply, we were bowled out for 154 with 3 overs remaining, with Don Tharaka (61) and Shinto (42*) leading the chase.
Fourth Grade - Away to Ulladulla United, our fourths went down chasing 155. Wickets were largely shared amongst all our bowlers, with Aldrin Sarkar, Jake Mussig and Luke Muscat each taking two. In reply, we totalled 116, with captain Nathan Darvill (43) and Paul McPhail (26*) being the key contributors.
