The Season is in full swing now as our teams strive for those important wins prior to the Christmas break. All the action from the weekend below.
Juniors
Stage 1 – Taking on North Nowra Cambewarra, our stage 1 team put in a great effort, only to fall short due to some excellent batting from Norths. Batting first, we totalled 81 from our 20 overs, which was elevated to 101 following wickets taken. Jash Talatiya (17) continued his good form while Ben Newing (16) continues to contribute well. In an attempt to defend the total, Jash Talatiya took 2-12 from his 3 overs, while Nyx Wilson and Max Russell each took a wicket.
Stage 2 – Sussex Inlet batted first against our Stage 2 team, who were bowled out for 104 thanks to a great team effort that saw six different bowlers taking at least a wicket each. Bayin Wills (2-24 and 22*) had a great all-round game and was left not out as we were bowled out for 91 in reply. Archie Richards managed 23 and Lennox Wills made 10 in the very close-run chase.
Stage 3 – Stage 3 picked up a big win against Ulladulla United on the back of some excellent batting. Electing to bat first, we had an amazing opening partnership of 139 between Shaia Wagner-Smith (47) and Xavier Smith (80) that set the foundations for a total of 5-170 from 26 overs. In response, Ulladulla United could only manage 8-117 from their 26 overs, with Katie Martin (3-8) taking the bowling honours, supported by Jack Meagher (2-16) and James Mundey (2-19).
Seniors
Womens – Our women fell just short of the total set by The Ratatouilles on Friday night. Batting first, The Ratatoulles set 7-144 from their 20 overs, as captain Anthea Godwin (3-18) wreaked havoc with her 4 overs. Chasing the total proved too difficult, however, as we compiled 5-126 from our 20 overs. Anthea Godwin (51) and Anne Boatswain (39) led the chase.
First Grade – Taking on premiership favourites Lake Illawarra, our Firsts displayed great poise but unfortunately fell short. Batting first, we set 9-203 from 50 overs, thanks to a great team effort helped by Mick Perry (69) and Matt Higham (35). We didn’t quite make enough runs, as Lake Illawarra chased the total down in 33 overs, as Brad Cross and Andrew Wilson each took 2 wickets.
Second Grade – Seconds picked up the win, batting first against Bay and Basin. We set a modest total of 130, largely thanks to a ninth wicket stand of 45 between Bryce Goldfinch (36*) and Jake Lewis (17). Rahul Sharma (19) also contributed well in his first game of second grade. We shoed great spirit in defending the low total, dismissing Bay and Basin for 104, with great returns from Nash Connell (3-20), Jake Lewis (3-24), Gary Fuss (2-6) and Bryce Goldfinch (2-22).
Third Grade – Our thirds had a tough day, taking on a very strong Sussex Inlet team. Batting first, we were dismissed for 51, with Jeevan Hettigoda (20) displaying great fight as wickets fell around him. Sussex were able to chase down the total inside 9 overs, however, Jaskaran Badyal and Jeevan Hettigoda were both able to pick up wickets beforehand.
Fourth Grade – It was a similar story for our fourth grade, who were given the task of chasing down a mammoth 4-316 set by Berry-Shoalhaven Heads. Bowling first, Jared Hooper (2-30), Jake Mussig, and Linford Breeze picked up wickets during a long day in the field. In response, we were bowled out for 107, with Paul McPhail (42) displaying his strong form and Cody Earle-Williams (19) recording his top score of the year.
